One of the most charming items in our Collections is this clockwork peacock.
Our records show that it was donated in the 1970’s, but not its original maker. However research has found that our peacock closely resembles those made by Hans Eberl of Nurnberg between 1900 and 1918.
Prior to the First World War Germany, and Nurnberg in particular, was the foremost producer of tinplate toys.
Alas our peacock is missing the connecting rods between the clockwork motor and his legs, so he can never walk again.
