Meet Edward Eagleton. Edward made his money as a tea dealer and his company based in London, Eagleton’s and Co was founded circa 1870.
This portrait was painted by Aileen Eagleton (1902-1984) in 1933. Aileen was an artist and this painting is so different to her usual style that we believe she was trying out another style when she copied this 18th century portrait. Aileen was a direct descendant of Edward Eagleton through his son, also Edward (1786-1860).
Edward Jr’s younger brother John also worked for the family tea business. John married Mary Ann Kemp, the daughter and sole heir of William Kemp. Esq. of Belton in 1817. The family were apparently refered to as the Eagletons of Belton, but John and his wife first settled in the village of South Luffenham.
